The arches to the Laurel District have transformed the Commercial Shopping area from a corridor to an active destination point. Proudly defining the Laurel District, the arches have become the backdrop for the seasonal street fairs which enliven the entire Community.

The iconic nature of these arches is evidenced in the fact that two Community groups have adopted this element in their logos and web pages as shown on the far right.

“While only one component of Ms. Golden’s design work in the streetscape improvement project, the street arches were particularly inspiring. During the design’s development, Ms. Golden held community meetings to discuss the work and solicit input.

It was exciting to watch the construction of the arches, and we were delighted when they were finished. We particularly loved the laurel leaf motif and the incorporation of the name “Laurel” in the arch design. We loved it so much that we adopted an image of the street arches as our neighborhood association logo.”
