Utilizing current Best Management Practices for storm water collection, the Civil Engineer and Golden Associates have designed vegetated bio-swales, permeable surfaces and “green” mini-swales throughout the project.

These improvements filter the storm water first flush from the City roads and private sites, before its conveyance to the City Storm Water System. This will be the new standard for new streets within the City of Oakland.

Formerly part of the Oakland Army Base, the 30-acre North Gateway Project is located near the base of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge at the intersection of Interstate Highways 80, 580 and 880.

This highly-visible location is envisioned to be a signature “Gateway” to Oakland and is a key element of the Oakland Redevelopment Agency’s strategy for revitalizing West Oakland. New infrastructure improvements include roadways, sidewalks, street trees, and special lighting components.
