LAKE MERRITT PARK
12th ST.
RECONSTRUCTION OAKLAND, CA
Golden Associates was the landscape architect for one of the most exciting reconstruction projects in the City of Oakland. The 12th Street Reconstruction Project will transform the southern end of Lake Merritt into a major civic park.
This $45 million dollar project will reduce the existing 12 lanes of traffic to 6, and increase the size of the park at the southern end of Lake Merritt by 3.5 acres.

This monumental project will improve the pedestrian experience, providing a strong connection to the existing civic buildings. By elevating the new 12th Street Bridge, pedestrians and boats will be able to access the Lake Merritt Channel.
Preparing landscape plans with an emphasis on bio-diversity, Golden Associates utilized regionally native plant material to encourage foraging and nesting of indigenous and migrating birds. For this effort, the City was able to obtain an $8,000,000 grant from the Coastal Conservancy.
